Where to Swim in Alston

With summer finally here and the signs of some good weather for July and August, many of our holiday let guests at Salvin House option are wondering where they can take a dip during their Cumbria staycation.

The South Tyne around Alston offers a number of places where it is suitable to bathe, although you should always be aware of the weather and exercise caution at all times. Most importantly, always check the depth and temperature before jumping into the water. Life jackets are advised for all young people when wild swimming.

Ashgill Force

Haltwhistle Open Air Pool

A long-established fixture of the Northumberland summer season, Haltwhistle Swimming Pool actually comprises three swimming pools around half an hour from your holiday cottage in Alsto n. You can take a picnic, set up camp on the grass and make a day of it, secure in the knowledge that lifeguards are on hand to keep an eye on the kids.

Lazonby Lido Pool

Slightly more oriented towards adult swimmers than Haltwhistle, Lazonby Lido Pool is around 30 minutes from your holiday home in Alston, via the stunning Hartside Pass. Run by local volunteers, the pool offers a relaxed and fun place to spend a day, with lunch in the onsite cafe.

Ullswater Wild Swimming
